As I continue to practice composing illustrations I produced this illustration that almost works as a parallel to the last one I did for The Metamorphosis
WHAT I LEARNT FROM THIS WAS:
-Use colour wisely for background elements - I removed the lineart from the staircase and changed the colour of the lines for the picture frame to make them "fall back" into the background-I need to practice using colour in a fully composed image - I tried to make the colours muted not only for a 1910s atmosphere but also because I'm not yet confident in using a larger range.
-Using special brushes to make "scratchy" shading does a lot more for the aesthetics than you might think
-I need to find a way to fill empty spaces of block colour like the back wall and the carpet - I tried adding a bit of texture like Adrian Tomine tends to do - not sure it was successful though
-I need to make my figures more fluid, they are way too rigid and unnatural.
